An exploration of the central metaphor of Field of Weeds

Thank you for your interest in our endeavor. We’re here to ask for your contribution to help us make something extraordinary, to reveal the living, unfathomable core of Zen. We are in pre-production of the first in what we see as a trio of films illustrating the concept of a naturally occurring dharma transmitted through our interaction with and bonding to our environment. It is a unique viewpoint, one that will be easily absorbed and utilized by those who watch the films. It is our intent to create works that are imbued with dharma, for the benefit of all.

The Island will star DJ Shanell (Ju Young Kang) and Wonil Sunim, the cast of Dharma Fragments.

It will be set on an island in the Jeollanam-do Province, with scenes filmed at Gwangbosa in Haenam. The storyline has been formulated and the larger plot points established. We will begin shooting in late-spring, two weeks on location with subsequent B-roll and greenscreen work in Seoul. Post-production will take an additional two months.

For the project we want to do, the level of quality and polish requires a larger canvas.

We need your support to acquire a camera that meets Netflix’s production requirements, such as a Blackmagic Design URSA Mini or a RED DSMC2 DRAGON-X. Contributors will all receive the satisfaction of witnessing the birth of the unique Zen expression forming in the West, the joy of taking part in recording something vital.

We are a light, well-trained crew that can work very efficiently. We have an operating budget of 10,000₩. Any amount is appreciated and will go toward production costs and supporting the cast and crew.
